Neurosurgery

Neurosurgical services in Hospital Fatimah is complemented by a dedicated operating theatre suite and a neurosurgical ward with a High Dependency Unit facility. In addition to this, critical care facilities (CCU) are also available to manage acute and seriously ill patients with neurosurgical disorders.

Expertise in the following areas are available :-

  • Head injury
    • including management of severe and poly-traumatised / patients
    • facilities for multimodality monitoring (eg Intracranial Pressure (ICP))
  • Brain, nerve and spinal tumours
    • removal of superficial or deeply located tumours using computer assisted surgery / stereotactic frame
  • Stroke
    • removal of haematoma either via craniotomy or minimal access / stereotactic aspiration
  • Degenerative spinal problems
    • radiculopathy or myelopathy
    • fusion and instrumentation
  • Paediatric problems
    • spina bifida with myelomeningocele
    • shunting for hydrocephalus
  • Infections
    • brain abscess (stereotactic aspiration or craniotomy)
  • Endoscopic and computer assisted surgery
    • for intraventricular tumours, pituitary tumours, large / complex brain tumours and haemorrhagic strokes.
